Habitat for Humanity of Ventura County - The Ventura County affiliate was founded in 1983 and is the oldest affiliate in California. Since then Habitat has repaired over 500 homes and built 37 houses for very low income families. We are completing the last house of a 22 home sub-division in Piru, will begin construction of 7 houses in the fall of 2005 in Oxnard, and are in the process of acquiring land in Simi Valley. With so many wonderful opportunities coming up, we need the help of caring hearts, concerned minds, able bodies, and helping hands in all aspects of our organization. Habitat works in partnership with families in need to build simple decent affordable housing. The houses are purchased from Habitat with 500 hours of "sweat equity", a small down payment, and a 0% interest mortgage. Habitat is a hand up not a hand out. The mortgage payments are used to continue our mission of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness in Ventura County and the world, making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. We hold Volunteer Orientations every 2nd Saturday of the month at 10am at our office location, 167 Lambert Street in Oxnard. Contact our office at (805) 485-6065 with any questions.
